PUERTO POSTIGO
SMALLEST OF THE SEVEN GATES OF THE COMPLETED WALLS OF MANILA AS THEY STOOD IN 1898. BEING THE NEAREST TO THE RESIDENCES OF THE HIGHEST CIVIL AND ECCLESIASTICAL AUTHORITIES, THIS GATE WAS USED PRINCIPALLY BY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE ARCHBISHOP OF MANILA. MAJOR MANUEL L. QUEZON OF THE PHILIPPINE REVOLUTIONARY ARMY, TOGETHER WITH MANY COMPATRIOTS, WAS CONFINED IN THE SOUTHERN GUARDROOM FOR SEVERAL MONTHS IN 1900.
