MILITARY HOSPITAL OF MANILA
STERNBERG HOSPITAL
THE MILITARY HOSPITAL OF MANILA WAS FORMERLY LOCATED NEAR SANTA CLARA CONVENT, WHERE IT WAS DESTROYED BY THE EARTHQUAKE OF JUNE 3,1863. A NEW HOSPITAL WAS BUILT IN THIS SECTION OF ARROCEROS AND ENTRUSTED TO THE CARE OF THE SISTERS OF CHARITY IN 1867. THE HOSPITAL AGAIN WAS DESTROYED BY THE TYPHOON OF 1869. A NEW ONE BUILT IN 1879 WAS GREATLY DAMAGED BY THE EARTHQUAKES OF 1880. SINCE THE AMERICAN ADMINISTRATION THE HOSPITAL HAS BEEN USED FOR THE PHILIPPINE DEPARTMENT OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY. IT WAS NAMED INHONOR OF MAJOR GENERAL GEORGE M. STERNBERG, MEDICAL CORPS, U.S.A.
