COLEGIO DE SANTA ISABEL
THE RT. REV. FRANCISCO C. GAINZA, O.P., BISHOP OF NUEVA CACERES (1862–1879), WAS THE PROMOTER AND FOUNDER OF THIS COLLEGE NAMED IN HONOR OF SAINT ISABEL, QUEEN OF HUNGARY. IT WAS SOLEMNLY BLESSED AND OPENED SEPTEMBER 18, 1870. BY A ROYAL DECREE OF JANUARY 11, 1872, IT BECAME THE FIRST NORMAL SCHOOL FOR GIRLS IN THE PHILIPPINES. DURING ITS EXISTENCE FROM 1877 TO 1898, THREE HUNDRED STUDENTS WERE GRADUATED.
